As time advances, the system of educating people also advances. There are many ways on how could a person attend to his need to be educated. One way is through the distance education. It makes educational process easier.

UNESCO defines distance education as “an educational process and system in which all or a significant proportion of the teaching is carried out by someone or something removed in space and time from the learner.”

It can be also define as a mode of learning in which students and teachers are physically separated from each other. A student centered, guided independent study, making use of well studied and learning pedagogies.

Distance education requires

  • Structured planning
  • Well-designed courses
  • Special instructional techniques
  • Methods of communication by electronic and other technologies

Distance learning attracts students who are also differs somewhat from the general student population. For example, Elliott, Ambrosia, and Case (1999) characterize their community college learners as follows:

  • Goal Oriented
  • Highly motivated
  • Focused Learners
  • Risk Takers
  • Thrive when guided

Though this distance education faces a lot of issues  such as the large capital costs associated with digital textbooks and interoperability issues between one platform and another or between on e LMS and another (Burns 2011).

In developing and develop countries, it became as an in-service vehicle to upgrade the knowledge, skills, and qualification of the teaching force. Finally—and predominantly within developed countries— distance education, mainly in the form of Web-based education, serves as a vehicle for continuing education, offering enrichment, enhancement, and additional certifications for teachers who have attained at least a minimum level of certification for their content and grade level. Where necessary, we distinguish among these three aims of distance learning in our discussion of distance education models (Burns 2011).

In conclusion, developers of the said system should think critically when creating content. It must be develop by people with triumphant experiences in school. These people should be really the people with heart and brain that entails to know and be aware of the skills, capabilities and culture of the pre-service and in-service  teachers for whom they produce content.
